LearnSmart for Schools asnet Technologies has been a proud innovator in and supporter of New Zealand education over many years, establishing and supporting the first IP based videoconferencing network for schools in 1999, for Kaupapa ara Whakawhiti Matauranga schools. This was to be the first IP network in Australasia!Since that first KAWM Maori schools' Minsitry of Education initiative, many school ICT clusters have taken up videoconferencing for teaching and learning, and students are graduating from university, having had the benefit of expert teachers throughout their five high school years, via the medium of videoconferencing. In fact, 2009 is the ninth year of videoconferencing in New Zealand schools. asnet Technologies went on to win a number of awards in New Zealand and Australia for its work in education. This includes the TUANZ Overall Project of the Year and Best Teleconferencing Service 2001, Network Person of the Year 2003, and the prestigious AIMIA Australian Interactive Multimedia Industry Award for Best Teleconferencing Service in Australia and New Zealand in the same year. Asnet now proudly awards schools, sponsoring some to enable their inclusion in NZ's virtual videoconference learning network (VLN) and global collaborations everywhere. asnet manages the NZEdNet VC network and videoconference / audioconference Bridge, providing a day to day service to schools, tertiaries and the Ministry of Education's own videoconference users throughout the country. Today, High Definition videoconferencing has become a reality for schools investing in high quality fibre networks, giving them a life-like experience. In fact, Polycom's High Definition quality and capability is outstanding even for those schools still using 256k or 384k bandwidth for videoconferencing.
