Polycom has implemented software image signing as a security measure to protect against the use of malicious software on Polycom SoundPoint IP and SoundStation IP 4000 phones.

This capability was implemented starting with BootROM release 3.0.0. If a phone is loaded with a BootROM version 3.0.0 or more recent it will check any software that it downloads to confirm that it is signed with a unique Polycom signature of authenticity. If the software is not appropriately signed it will not load it.
